Oviedo is an important center of own pilgrimage for Holy Chamber and San Salvador relics saved from Jerusalem. Alfonso II could take it and come Monsacro mountain first and later to Oviedo. This place was the most important stage for Compostela pilgrimages. We had conserve a popular french song: Who is going to Santiano and not at San Salvador, is visting servant and not is visiting the Lord ¨.

Asturias starts its link to Saint James´ Way in IX century, when Alfonso II el Casto King (the first pilgrim), started the way towards to Iria Flavia (Padrón). Iria Flavia was the place where exceptional events revealed Apostle Santiago´s sepulchre. This was the first route of jacobean pilgrimage, connecting Oviedo with Compostela for the wester lands in Asturias.

Later  this route lost part of level for the new way in the Tableland (French way), but will be visit XI-XIII centuries. The important adoration to San Salvador in Oviedo continued attracting high number of pilgrims since León´s French Way to visit the Lord before Apostle Santiago.

But we have in Asturias many and differents ways. There is a route for the coast or another way since Oviedo to connect to Aviles´ coast.
